Becoming a PADI Divemaster you get a passport to great dive destinations all over the world, where you can work whilst doing something we all love – diving! Now deciding where to do your Divemaster Training is an important step, and choosing which facility/center is right for you can be difficult. To help you, we have put together the most frequently asked questions for you to start thinking about when making your decision.
A: To enroll in your Divemaster course you need to have 40 logged dives and be a certified Advanced and Rescue Diver (from any training organization), and be at least 18 years old. At the end of your course you also need to have completed an EFR Primary and Secondary Care training with the last 24 months. If you don’t have these courses or are missing dives, no worries as you can complete them here with us as well. You will also need to have a current medical certificate completed by a doctor to confirm that you are fit to dive. We recommend that you obtain this before you come. We can send you the appropriate form in your chosen language for you and your doctor to complete. It must be completed no more than 12 months prior to the end of your Divemaster internship.
A: The PADI Divemaster course is very flexible which makes it possible for you to work at your own pace and time frame. As a general rule, a good time frame is 4 – 8 weeks, although the course can be completed in as little as 3 weeks if you come in with enough experience. At 12 Dive we offer four different types of Internships which range from 4 – 12 weeks. We also start the Divemaster Courses on a daily basis to suit your schedule.
A: Once you have your 40 dives required to start the Divemaster Internship – All dives are FREE of charge!* Our view is to become a dive professional you need to have the necessary confidence, knowledge, skills and experience which can only be obtained by DIVING! As part of your internship you will work alongside our Instructors and dive staff to assist with training divers, guiding certified divers and so on. The more you dive, the better value your course, as all your dives are included in the price! If you are missing dives we offer fun diving at a great discounted rate.
A: The diving here is excellent, it is a volcanic island which means you will experience the beautiful underwater lava formations. There is a wide variety of fish, many different types of rays, octopus and cuttlefish are very common and there is also a chance to see turtles. For our keen photographers we also have macro life including several types of nudibranch. With around forty five different dive sites there is plenty to discover during your internship. So here at 12 Dive we can offer you an excellent DM package and amazing diving as well!
A: Accommodation depends on your budget. There is a nearby hostel a 5 minute walk away from dive centre which offers private rooms, twin rooms and dorms. If you prefer something more luxurious we can of course arrange this for you.
A: Tenerife has a warm climate nearly all year around. Pack mainly T- shirts, shorts and swimmers. Flip flops and 1 pair of shoes or sneakers. Plenty of sunscreen plus sunglasses are all worth packing. Also bring a warm sweater and trousers for the evening in winter months. Dont pack too much!
A: Travel insurance is most highly recommended for your protection and covers you for loss of luggage, cancellation, medical expenses and if you are really unlucky a diving emergency. For a great yearly cover we recommend Divers Alert Network (DAN). Please email us for more details and costs. It might also be good to check with your insurance from home as sometimes they do cover diving too.
A: Make sure your passport is current with at least 6 months remaining before renewal. There are plenty of banks and cash machines in Tenerife but take along some extra travellers cheques or a credit card as reserves.
A: If you already have your own equipment please make sure you check your scuba gear thoroughly before the trip as repairs overseas can be difficult to carry out. We can service all brands of equipment here at 12 Dive. We recommend your regulator especially is thoroughly serviced before the trip. Ideally a 5 or 7 mm wetsuit is used here in Tenerife, the water temperature during the year ranges from 18-24 Degrees Celsius. You won’t need tanks, weight belts or weights. If you have your own regulator please bring an insert if you have a YOKE/INT connection as our tanks have a DIN connection. Please ask us if unsure.
